Andrea L. Blackwelder

Certified Financial Planner™ And Chartered Financial Consultant®

I’m often asked, “How did you become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER(™) Practitioner?” The fact is, it was an accident. Just out of college, I interviewed for what I thought was a “management” position in Denver. As it turns out, it was for “personal financial management!” After considering the opportunity carefully, I accepted the position. Almost a decade and a half later, the rest, as they say, is history.

I’ve loved being a financial planner from day one. Yes, it’s stressful. Yes, it requires constant attention. Yes, I bring my work home with me, physically and emotionally. And yes, I take on the worries, concerns, and stress that my clients feel. But I wouldn’t have it any other way!

I’m passionate about improving the financial services industry, and I’m committed to doing my part to help financial planners become a trusted partner in the financial success of Main Street, not Wall Street. I’m a recent past president of the Colorado Chapter of the Financial Planning Association, a roughly 600-member-strong organization that supports and educates financial planners while providing resources to the public. I donate my time to the organization because I believe strongly in the potential that lies in building financially wise communities of economically secure families. Currently, I chair the Women of FPA of Colorado group. We help support, educate, and encourage women in the financial services industry.

My husband, my daughter, our dachshund, and I have made our home in Denver, Colorado. I’m a native of the state, and proud to say so! I come from an agricultural background and enjoyed a small town childhood. My parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents were farmer/ranchers and entrepreneurs. I credit my independent spirit and work ethic to their legacy and have always been grateful to them for it.

As a parent to a toddler, the majority of my free time is spent chasing my daughter around the house and trying to craft new experiences that will bring her joy and spark her curiosity. Watching her grow has been one of the greatest joys of my life. In those rare moments of peace and quiet, you’ll find me reading, having a cup of coffee on the patio, or trying to coax a badly neglected garden into producing a veggie or two.

After about four years in financial services, I realized that if I wanted to work with clients in a more sophisticated and comprehensive way, I needed to take the next steps in my education. I began working toward my Certified Financial Planner™ Practitioner designation (CFP®) and followed it a short time later with the Charter Financial Consultant® (ChFC®) designation. It took years of hard work and studying, but I gradually built a foundation of knowledge that I rely upon daily to help my clients see their plan from many different angles. I’m a seeker of knowledge by nature. I read financial industry news and research incessantly, and I value education as a cornerstone of the commitment I’ve made to my clients. There’s so much to know and everything is constantly changing. New products, new regulations, and new strategies are always just around the corner. It requires focus and diligence to sort through the information and determine what is valuable for clients and what isn’t. I love it because it keeps me excited and sharp.

In 2010, I realized that my employment position wasn’t enabling me to provide truly comprehensive and independent financial advice to my clients. As a result, my business partner, Joseph Clemens, CFP®, EA and I co-founded Wisdom Wealth Strategies in February of 2010, in the midst of one of the greatest financial meltdowns in history. It wasn’t a great time to start a financial business, but we knew it was the path that must be taken and waiting wasn’t an option. It’s been the best decision we could have made – for us and for our clients. Wisdom Wealth Strategies is a Registered Investment Advisor. In a nutshell, that means we’re a fee-only financial planning and investment advisory practice. We build and implement financial plans while helping to manage the investments that serve as critical components of the plans. We are focused on providing a comprehensive planning approach that is fully transparent.
